Wuthering Heights is a very different love story indeed. It centres around the legendary love of Catherine Earnshaw and her adopted brother, the enigmatic Heathcliff. Although Cathy loves Heathcliff so deeply that she says she and Heathcliff are one and the same, she says she cannot possibly marry him because her brother, Hindley, has humiliated him so much and made him so low. She instead marries the much more civilised but insipid Edgar Linton. In despair, Heathcliff runs away and disappears. Cathy is heartbroken. 5 years later, Heathcliff returns a rich man. He buys Wuthering Heights from the financially ruined Hindley, and aims to take revenge on the Lintons for taking Cathy away from him. Cathy dies in childbirth, and Heathcliff is distraught. He then loses his mind and any sense of what is socially acceptable until he can be reunited with Cathy in the other world at the end of the novel.

it is the first time I make first comment:D and this different love story didn't affect me so much because when I watched the film, I got bored. Its begining was the same as well the classıcal love story films, so I couldn't be curious about what would happen next. I can guess what would happen! Cathy is a silly woman because of her brother she gave up her love and she devastated her and Heathcliff's life.then at the end a fateful event was existed Heathcliff became insane.I hope that we will have more hectic stories than this...
ReplyDeletehi everybody.ı read both novel and watched the movie.so ı can say that ı understand it fully.firstly story is very different especially when it is compared to another works.the story doesn't run smoothly and this stiuation affected me a lot.there are lots of ups and downs.ı cant imagine a writer who can write this horrifiying work in such a time.and writer could tie everything successfully.she didnt left anything unrelated.in literature respect it was a good jobbut in my respect ı like jane eyre most:)

ReplyDeleteWhat a complex story it was:) However, it is an admirable product of a high wisdom about life and relationships. I had heard Wuthering Heights before but I had no idea about what it is. The film made the things more comprehensible for us. I am very sorry for Heathcliff because of his misfortune that makes him so arrogant and wicked nearly in his whole life. Heathcliff's love is so dangerous that it turns not only his life but also the others' into nightmares. But at least, it is good to see that he rejoins with Cathy in the end...
hi.. actually i want to say that i didnt like both the story and the film.. especially heathcliff,his interesting and dangerous love bored me during the film. events and loves in the story are very complex and it didnt impress me because i dont like the excessive emotions. but the writer exaggerated lots of actions such as dreams, anger of the characters,cries,fights etc. they are very boring..=)

ReplyDeleteThe topic of the Wuthering Heights is the most different and interesting one among the ones we covered.It is good to have knowledge about such novels,though.Cathy's reason for marrying Edgar Linton wasn't remarkable.If she loved Heathcliff for real she would have gone somewhere else with him in order to make a living for a new happy life and to get rid of Hingley,but she chose the easy way by marrying Edgar Linton.Whever she saw Heathcliff around her new home after he got rich her selfishness stopped her from getting much closer to Heathcliff.Now,I come up with such a question:Why is Cathy considered to be selfish? The answer is quiet simple.She is selfish because she thought about everything on her own.She thought about how her emotional relationship was with Heathcliff,how to save him from being humiliated and so on.She didn't ask Heathcliff how to find a solution together.In stead,she thought that if she married Heathcliff she would be degraded.All of these mean that she deserves the pain she had.But I can't say something similar about Heathcliff.Did he deserve to take revenge ?

In my opınıon ,ıt is a classical love story.That is why ıt did not affect me very at all.But ı must read the novel .In addıtıon ,ı like the jane eyre most.ı am reading the book and then ı am gonna watch the film .by the way ,ı liked the name of our subject only-wuthering heights-:)see all next week.
ReplyDeleteHi...I think this story and its film version is really successfull.However I've liked almost all of the others,I really liked this one.İt is realistic and film makes the senses more powerful.Wuthering Heights...Heathcliff was an extra ordinary man.Even he showed his bad sight I think it is only related to his deep love to Catherine.But also there is some nonsense in novel:Cathy's unnecessary marriage with Edgar Linton.It was added as if to make novel more interesting.Only one way it is meaningful.In this world not only men can love two women,a woman can do it also:D I couldn't catch every part of the film,but could understand from the beginning.It is really interesting,namely,in this ancient times this kind of things were seen not very normal.A woman cannot love two men and cannot behave like this(moaring after a man :D).It is not ethic,but Emily Bronte was so brave that she wrote like a novel...Wuthering Heights

ReplyDeleteThis week we watched the film of “Wuthering Heights” which I had always been curious about. When I was in high school, I had read this book. I was so impressed. However, for this time, I didn’t like the film of it. The subject was nonsense. Almost all the characters had the same name. At first I was forced at identifying who is who. There was too much melancholy during the film. That is, we saw a diseased love story.

Hello everyone! The movie that we watched this week was really a fantastic one. l held my breath through the movie :) There were such cases that l couldn't even estimate what would become later.O n the other hand, Heathcliff's aggressiveness and Cathy's marriage to Edgar Linton while still loving Heathcliff made me crazy. The movie made me think about how a real love should be once more time. It was complicated for me to understand their love to eachother and also at the end of the movie there was an imagination of the old days' in which both of the lovers were happy together. This signs that Heathcliff's love was an endless love, l think... see you...

ReplyDeletehi everybody... this week was very enjoyable for me as i like watching films:) i have read ''wuthering heigts'' novel last week.. and i couldn't understand as it was too complex.. cathy's and Heathcliff's loves was very strange i think.. as they love each other so much,marring to different people was very nonsense..there was no reason for Cathy's and Heathcliff's marriage because of cathy it bacame hard:/ and due to her choice she gave trouble not only to Heathcliff but also to herself.. the film's end was very tragic.. it should'nt have been so..so i didn't like the end.. i like the films that have happy ending and ending with happiness:) see you next week:)..
ReplyDeleteWuthering Heights-another novel of Bronte Sister's.We watched it's film version.It seemed it's cast were very confusing:)I couldn't realize some of the characters till the end of the film.There were only two families living isolated on the heigts but a lot of people living in two families,marriaging each other,giving births etc.!It was one of the most bizarre and wild film I have ever seen :D
ReplyDeleteHi!This week,we covered Wuthering Heights.I haven't watched and read sth like that before.Indeed,it is so different.In some parts of the film, I was so perplexed.I didn't like it so much. I think Cathy had a nonsense reason not to marry to Heathcliff.She damaged both herself and him only.A more plausible reason could have been found.On the other hand,the behaviours of people towards each other weren't so good.It seemed to me that Jane Eyre is better than that.
ReplyDeletehi everbody!this week we learned a new novel,Wuthering Heights,in the lesson and watched its film.When ı was a child I read it but I did not understand now I understood but it was a very strange story.Everybody was dying consistently,even the main characters.I did not like it very much but nevertheless,its story was good.I think it was very pessimistic because it was written with loneliness.Moreover,Heathcliff was very fearful man.He made all things for his love but he exaggerated a bit ı think.For the sake of his love he spoiled everybody's life and at the end he died this shows his great love.. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting film we watched this week it was!The love among the characters was so different from the previous ones. It was like pain not fully love.The character,Heathcliff was so wild that he did everything for his love.Also,his behaviors were strange,so I got irritated in some scenes while watching.To the end of the film,Heathcliff fell into disorder ,and made his son and the Cathy marry,but thanks to God ,in the end he died and reunited with his love and the surviving ones got relaxed;)

The most effective person in Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff unquestioning.Although I knew the story before, I exactly saw how Heathcliff was cruel,rude and selfish.The story nearly doesn't have any good part.It usually includes unhappy and bad situations,but still I like the story and the movie.Especially supernatural parts of it was really great.I like supernatural films and stories so much like ghosts,spirits,demons and angels.So in this movie ghost of catherine was effective.
ReplyDeletegood evening everybody!!!this week we watched a film called 'Wuthering Heights'.I have heard it before;but I haven't watched the film.Thanks to this course,I had a chance to watch;thanks teacher...This film ended more differently than the others.It was very tragic.The people loving each other got married to other people.This was very silly because in spite of all difficulties no matter what they are,marrying to the person whom you love is logical.Without loving someone,how can you marry to her/him?

ReplyDeleteHello everyone.I couln't attend to the course this week,but I have something to say about Wuthering Heights,some of the characters and some particular events.As I read the abstracts in the book I came to a conclusion that Cathy and Heatcliff couldn't come together even though they were lovers,and the main plot is much like the suffering of these two lovers.All of these made me think that Wuthering Heights has a different theme from the novels of Jane Austen.While I was talking to one of my friends about the Wuthering Heights he told me that,while Jane Austen's novels deal with the love on earth with a happy ending Wuthering Heights deals with the pain of love and the love which is carried to the other world from this one.I was surprised when I first heard about it,but when I was told about the movie extensively I really understood that the theme of the Wuthering Heights is to be appreciated.

ReplyDeleteName of the book,Wuthering Heights, fully reflects the story's tansion.we watched the movie last week. i would want to make nice commends about the love depicted,but actually it was too odd.when we think of love or see lovers, we usually have nice impressions, feeling about them and also we may envy of them.however,it doesn't mean of course love is felt in the same way for all people, but the love between them gave me the sense of annoyance most of time,especially the instant behaviours of Heathcliff was irritating. only the sceen where Heathcliff dug the Cathy's tomb and gave her a hug were really impressive,courageous act of him. finally i saw rational couples apart from the Cathy and HEathcliff and it was hopeful love,gave the sense the bad days would be at the back..nice ending it was..

hi friends.. i have read this story and it was the most interesting love story i have read.. heathcliff and cathy love each other very much but this love makes them bad people.. especially heathcliff makes evil things to his wife, his son.. this is real love i thing. love is that which is impossible it is that which is talked in the story.. the things which heathcliff and cathy lived, are not lived by hareton and little cathy.. they love each other too.. but they are together.. i love this story...

The novel we covered is an interesting and copmlex love story, but after watching the film it became more clear.I read the story already in its simplified form.The style is different from Jane Austens's.I liked the story except from Heatcliff's being cruel.

I read the story and watched the film as well. if we say that the real love is a love which is endless, we can see this in this story. but this may make the readers upset. yet these are the features that make the story sucessful,realistic and fantastic...

Hi everybody!this week we watched the film version of Wuthering Heights.I have read this book before but I hadn't seen the film.I think It was a complex and a bit boring story and not efficient as much as book.while watching the film to be honest I had difficulty in identfying the characters.In the film each character died one by one.we also see a big love in the film.we witness that Heathcliff can do everything for his love but some of his behaviours were so selfish.he even ruined others' life for the sake of his love.So see you later..

the love story was stronger than I've ever read. The characters of a love so intense and limitless. is a love beyond the limits of morality and of right and wrong. the historian has a conflict with the player to suffer Heathcliff and hate it at the same time. this book is really fantastic
